Why Isn’t Allah Intervening?
Why isn’t Allah (SWT) intervening? Such is the question that may come to the minds of those who are outraged by the Zionists’ barbarity and appalled by the great sufferings of our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
Praise be to Allah (SWT) and Blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
And do not think that Allah is unaware of what the evildoers are doing: He but grants them respite until the Day when their eyes will stare in horror [Ibrahim, 14:42]
Indeed, those who put committed Muslim men and committed Muslim women to trials and tribulations and then do not repent deserve the torment of Hell, and the torment of the fire. [Al Buruj, 85:10]
Why isn’t Allah (SWT) intervening? Such is the question that may come to the minds of those who are outraged by the Zionists’ barbarity and appalled by the great sufferings of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Every time we believe that Zionists have reached the Nadir, we discover with horror that they can massacre children who have just received food packages, kill human beings who are fighting for food, with machine guns.
The question of wanting to know why Allah (SWT) does not intervene is a reversed question. The one who asks this question should actually be questioned. We are His creation, His slaves. He is the Judge. We are all in His kingdom, under His authority. Any judgment is His judgment. No one is above Him, no one can surpass Him. No one can question Him. He cannot be underestimated in any way.
There are things that Allah (SWT) predicts. The answer to why certain things happen or why Allah (SWT) does not intervene is simply none of our concern.
We want to question the Creator of the heavens and earth and everything that exist in between upon His actions. He does what He wants, and this is none of our concern. Moreover, if we want to question the Most Powerful, The Greatest, the Sublime, the Supreme, the Superior, a clear understanding of His attributes would help us understand.
If we know that Allah (SWT) is true, as is mentioned repeatedly in the Qur’an, we therefore know that He is the All-Wise and All-Knowing. Don’t we have faith in the decisions of the All-Wise and All-Knowing?
Let us beware of waswasa (murmurs) of Shaitaan for to pay attention would lead us to disbelief and weaken our hearts. Once we have fought those murmurs and tried to chase them from our hearts, and hate them, we have become a genuine believer. Hating such thoughts is not a deficiency of faith but rather a sign of belief.
It applies to our brothers and sisters in China, Kashmir, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, Iran, India and Turkmenistan. This is all a test. Allah (SWT) tests us. It is also a test for the oppressors. A test for those who are victims of bombings and massacres. Those who have lost their lives have been tested, as well as those who have lost their limbs. Those who have been scared have been tested and so have been those who have lost loved ones. The wounded have been tested. Each and every one of us is tested.
It is a test for those who are witnessing the oppression. On which side are we?
The whole dunya is a classroom undergoing a test. Tests do not end until we meet Allah (SWT). Once we have met Him, our results are declared, and we receive our qualifications.
If Allah (SWT) destroyed every oppressor once the latter started to oppress, it would no longer be a test.
Had there not been any opposition against criminals’ and occupiers’ transgressions, how would Allah (SWT) have chosen martyrs and punish transgressors for their deeds against Muslims?
Some remain firm, others leave the path, some escape towards democracy, others towards Allah (SWT). Some support the oppressed, others abandon them. Some spend for Allah’s (SWT) cause, others become misers.
Those who question Allah (SWT) on what is happening in Gaza or elsewhere, should study those who are mentioned in Surah Al Buruj in the Qur’an, those who were burned in the trenches with their children, for the only reason of being pure. How would they react?
We know that Allah (SWT) has declared the death of these believers as a success. The burden of death has been qualified as a success. Upon judgment, ultimately the final victory always belongs to the believers.
What would those who today doubt upon seeing the situation in Gaza and elsewhere, would have said had they seen Sumayyah, the first martyr of Islam, tied under the burning sun of Makkah, who was tortured, whipped then killed? She died like many other Sahaba.
But according to the very definition of victory, she has been ultimately victorious. Sumayyah died and her oppressors are also dead. But where is she, and where are they?
We need to be convinced that the believers will be ultimately victorious while oppressors will be punished in Hellfire.
[…] and never will Allah allow those who deny the truth to break through the committed Muslims. [An Nisa, 4:141]
It would be a misconception to believe that every injustice committed on Earth would be avenged by Allah (SWT). He sometimes gives the oppressor a respite but when He decides to act upon, He does not spare the oppressor. Had Allah (SWT) avenged all injustices committed on Earth, what would be the use of the Day of Judgment, the Day of Reconciliation, especially if oppressors and enemies are punished severely in this world?
Allah (SWT) has said that He could delay His punishment until the eyes would be horrified by the sight.
And do not think that Allah is unaware of what the evildoers are doing: He but grants them respite until the Day when their eyes will stare in horror. [Ibrahim, 14:42]
If He is keeping them in dunya for their misdeeds and oppression, it’s out of wisdom. And if He destroys them in this dunya, it’s nothing compared to what awaits them on the day of Judgment.
Life is short, it is only a question of days before we leave this exam room to be in front of Allah (SWT). It is comforting for souls and hearts that one day the Day of Judgment will come, and even more reassuring that it will be led by the King of kings, conscious of each and every detail of what happens to us in this dunya.
Even if they are oppressors, there will only be justice and testimonies of truth when they will be judged by Allah (SWT). And even if the oppression weighs as small as a grain of mustard or even less, will be revealed.
Allah (SWT) has never promised that there will be no test on this test field. But He has committed no injustice on that Day. He says:
Be conscious, then, of] the Day when every living being shall come to plead for himself [alone], and every living being shall be repaid in full for whatever he has done, and none shall be wronged [An Nahl, 16:111]
May Allah (SWT) help and guide us.
