Safeguarding our Trust in Allah (SWT)
The audacious decision of an African country, namely South Africa, to force Israel to answer to the International Court of Justice about committing genocide against the people of Gaza should be of keen interest for us
Praise be to Allah (SWT) and peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
“[…] And never will God grant to the unbelievers a way (to triumph) over the believers.” [Nisāa, 4:141]
The audacious decision of an African country, namely South Africa, to force Israel to answer to the International Court of Justice about committing genocide against the people of Gaza should be of keen interest for us. It compels us to reflect on the impact of resorting to an international judiciary body based on human laws may have on our faith in divine legislation, and by extension our faith, as well as the possibility of a turning point in world history.
In Surah An’ām, Allah reminds us:
“[…] The Command rests with none but God: He declares the truth and He is the best of Judges.” [An’ām, 6:57]
These days, the expectations and hope from the ICJ is high on social media, which is greatly significant given the impunity from which the Zionist oppressor enjoys despite its atrocious crimes against our brothers, sisters and children. However, may Allah forbid, this manifestation could have us place high hopes on a Court which has every interest except those of Muslims at heart. From this perspective, it becomes our duty to question ourselves regarding a possible infection of our spirituality by an insidious virus.
Moreover, we need to recognize that the South African petition also unequivocally condemns the Muslim operation of the 7th of October 2023. But scholars unanimously acknowledge the right to armed resistance to those who have been oppressed during nearly eight decades, without any other alternative. This right is also acknowledged by international law. Therefore, by supporting the South African position, we risk rejecting a fundamental concept of our deen, that of the jihad.
According to the statements of Muhammd (PBUH), we know that there will always be a group of people engaged in armed combat to fight for the truth, al Haq. We also need to be wary of a possible judgment against Muslim warriors by the ICJ, deeming their actions as illegal. In such an event, will we, as an Ummah side with the ICJ or support Muslim warriors? By trusting the Court, aren’t we also endorsing their standards and norms, thus denying Allah his status of Al-Adl, the Just?
As Muslims, we should realise that even if the ICJ condemned Israel, it does not have the power to compel the apartheid Zionist state to abide by its judgment. The ICJ can only turn to the Security Council to demand that corrective measures be taken. However, we are very aware that the US will oppose any decision of the Security Council through its veto power, which it demonstrated clearly to oppose an immediate ceasefire despite the 30,000 deaths and 9,000 children killed, imposed famine, etc… Throughout its history, the Zionist state has blatantly violated dozens of UN resolutions. One more would not be of consequence for Israel.
The Ummah should therefore not be quick to fully trust the ICJ’s conclusions. We need to remember that these judiciary institutions are based on kufr and human laws. We need to focus on Allah (SWT) who, in all His wisdom, is the only One to decide of the appropriate time and method to stop the sufferings of our brothers and sisters in Gaza.
“When comes the Help Of God, and Victory,… [Nasr, 110:1]
The solution to the humiliation that the Ummah is facing is found in the absolute adoption of Allah’ (SWT) deen, to which Allah (SWT) invites us:
“O ye who believe! enter into Islam whole-heartedly; and follow not the footsteps of the Evil One; for he is to you an avowed enemy. [Baqara, 2:208]
In the same vein, keen observers are unanimous, it is no coincidence that it is the relatively small state of South Africa that has brought this matter to the ICJ. The USA has realized that it can no longer fool anyone, having lost their superpower on the world and the Muslim world. The world is highly aware that the USA had never been in favour of a de-escalation of the war between Israel and Gaza.
There are signs of changing times. The support of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to South Africa, the adherence of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Egypt to BRICS, mean that this bloc now controls trade in the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. It is therefore no coincidence that it is South Africa that stands against Israel, as it is the most strategic BRICS country to do so.
But beyond this geopolitical parenthesis, there are other signs of considerable progress of Muslim leadership, of Muslim economic development and sovereignty and political independence. These are reasons why Muslims should not be quick to yield to the Western colonial propaganda. It is regrettable that Muslims keep on belittling Arab countries and fellow Muslims. By so doing, they become agents of Islamophobia, deflecting the increasing anger in the West, to target Muslim countries. Let’s refrain from becoming agents of Shaitaan and let’s unmask the Western strategy of belittling Islam and Muslims.
The appeal is thus made; let’s be aware that times are changing. Let’s be grateful to Allah (SWT) for the mercy that He is bestowing upon us to be the witnesses of such a positive evolution.
And let’s renew our faith in Allah’s (SWT) promise:
“And never will God grant to the unbelievers a way (to triumph) over the believers. [Nisāa, 4:141]
